Losing Streak Ends Thanks To Holliday Bomb

Men, women and … and polar bears can rest! The Cardinals have finally broken their losing streak with a win over the Royals, 5-4.

Cards losing streak ends with 5-4 victory over Royals!

In the eighth inning, the Cardinals were down 4-3. Colby Rasmus got on base and moved over thanks to some smart base running during an Albert Pujols pop-out. Then Matt Holliday stepped up. And he blasted a homer to center. It was beautiful and it was the game winner!

Ryan Theriot had a nice return to the line up going 2 for 4 … sporting high socks and a haircut. He was decent with his glove and made some great hits. Still made some Theriot-ish moves, but he’s our shortstop!

Jake Westbrook pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits and four earned runs. He had four strikeouts.

Jason Motte got the win, pitching two-thirds of an inning and giving up one hit with one strikeout. Fernando Salas got the save pitching the ninth. He had one one strikeout.

In a move similar to the turtlenecks from the Dodgers series earlier this season, several teammates sported the high socks and their performances greatly improved — Holliday hit the game-winning home run and Theriot had an excellent game. Let’s hope more teammates roll up their high socks and win the series Sunday!

Didn’t see any of the game, so thanks for the recap! So glad they finally won!

I don’t quite understand this, but Holliday was wearing Red’s pants. Hmmmm. http://atmlb.com/mOAMKl
