Several media outlets are reporting that the Rockies have sent Ian Stewart and Casey Weathers to the Cubs for Tyler Colvin and DJ Lemahieu.
Colvin, a lifetime .215/.274/.696 hitter, never developed into the offensive player the Cubs hoped he would become, and spent much of last season at AAA Iowa.
The 26-year old Stewart hit .236/.323/.751 lifetime in Colorado, but I bet he’s never survived being impaled by a wooden stake and STILL made it around the bases. Casey Weathers is a 26-year old righty who has yet to make it out of Double A.
Hasta La Vista, Tyler. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

It’s a change of scenery trade.
Ian stewart was about to be non-tendered, so we would have been able to get him for FREE…in terms of players.
With Jeff Baker, Blake DeWitt and no Ian Stewart, the Cubs have 3 of the most blah people to play third base in all of baseball.
This does not help the Cubs at all.
It helps the Cubs in terms of guys that have never been photographed with Cesar Izturis.
I just don’t get it. Blake DeWitt is basically the same player. We now have two Blake DeWitts.
And that’s two too many.
Ok Doc, we get it, you think he’s “just like” Blake DeWitt. I don’t recall DeWitt ever being considered a 20-25 HR guy, though, as Stewart has been. Admittedly, they are similar fielders statistically, but third is Stewart’s primary position, while DeWitt has most of his experience at 2nd.
When Stewart hits well, as he did from 2009 to early 2010, he can help – the only question is: will the Cubs get him back on track?
DeWitt was considered just as big of a prospect as Steward. Considering his swing and what he did in the minor leagues, I think he was indeed thought of being a 20-25 HR guy when in the Dodgers system. Different positions, but DeWitt, until now, was probably the default third baseman for 2012.
My guess (and I don’t know this for sure), his stats with the Rockies were probably bloated a bit playing in Coors Field.
And he was so bad last year he was sent down to the minor leagues.
I guess this is what true rebuilding looks like.
The Cubs are going to have to find someone to play first base with a project WAR of 20 wins this year to get them to about the 75 win mark. Is there anyone available that fits that bill?
When are the Cubs going to complete those trades for Roy Halliday and Matt Kemp?
