Stupid Reds went out and got Mat Latos. They gave up a ton for him (including Volquez), but still. Now we have to face Latos 120 times a year.

    BLAH.

Looks like Toronto came in with the high bid for Darvish.

That’s probably for the best anyway. Didn’t one of the former Cubs talk about how Yu’s fastball was arrow straight? If he doesn’t have any movement, he’s going to get shelled on this side of the pond.

      When’s Woody getting signed?

It could be that they have no desire to SIGG Yu, but bid high to get the rights just to keep him away from the Yankeess or other contenders in their division.

Today’s Fielder rumor comes from Bruce Levine…and the Cubs are indeed negotiating with Fielder according to his 2 sources.

Tomorrow we’ll hear the opposite from someone else.

Cubs are reportedly interested in Anthony Rizzo. Interesting.

    • juliedicaro says:

Rizzo was drafted by Theo in 2007 and went to the Padres in the Adrian Gonzales trade.

Also, Baseball America recently listed Rizzo as the number 1 Padres prospect.

Pulled these minor leagues stats from Baseball-Reference. Rizzo is a first baseman, really had an outstanding season at AAA Tucson with a .331 BA, .404 OBP and .652 slugging percentage. He also played 49 games with the Pads last year and hit under .150 with a lot of strikeouts. He does take a lot of walks as one would expect with a Theo draft pick.

          • FrankS says:

Anybody have any idea on the percentage of players who perform as poorly in their first major league season as Rizzo did that eventually had productive or even stellar careers? Or will the Cubs create an offensive desert on the infield corners with Stewart and Rizzo both hitting below the Mendoza line?

From MLBTR & Boston Globe baseball analyst Nick Cafardo:

Cafardo is skeptical that the Cubs are legit contenders for Prince Fielder, saying right now the team’s mindset is “let’s not spend until we’re ready to spend and right now we’re not ready to spend.”
