Saturday the Cubs played an intrasquad game for the second consecutive day. They couldn’t even beat themselves.
Pitcher Jay Jackson pitched three perfect innings while Brett Jackson hit a home run for the second consecutive day. Both were playing for the White Team. The game was called after six innings in a 3-3 tie.
Speaking of Brett Jackson, he’s got his eyes on the prize.
“I’ve said it before, the things I can control are what I do every day,” Brett Jackson said. “I’m not going to make the team right now, today, but every day is a piece to that puzzle and I will keep working until that day comes. And when that day comes I will keep working there.”
Even though he did hit home runs in both intrasquad games, young Brett will have to keep up the good work against other teams starting today, as the Cubs start play in the Cactus League. Kerry Wood, are you ready for some baseball?
“Just another opening day of the Cactus League,”Kerry Wood said. “Against the Oakland A’s. We’ve got to go defend first place today.”
In a matchup for the ages, Rodrigo Lopez takes on Brandon McCarthy starting at 2 pm Central. There’s no video broadcast, but Len Kasper will be calling the game via radio on Cubs.com. It’s real baseball!

Brilliant headline.
LOL . . . Kerry.
So how did the game go? We’ve been without power until about an hour ago, so I missed seeing whatever game MLB.com showed….
