The Cubs will be trying to ruin everything for the Pirates again tonight. The Pirates are 13 games over .500 and only 1.5 games behind the Reds, but the Cubs will hope to send them into a tailspin that will send them back to the losing team we’ve known for the last 20 years.
On the mound for the Cubs tonight is former Pirate Paul Maholm (8-6, 4.09). He’ll be opposed by James McDonald, who I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of. He’s 10-3 and has a 2.93 ERA. He’s had a good year, but has given up 4 or more runs in 3 of his last 5 starts.

Game time is 6:05 Central and should you get CSN, you’ll be able to watch the game.

Ha! Thanks Carl for the thread I was pulling teeth trying to find a second to put one together, I’m on my way to the Giants/Padres game. You da bomb
Let’s go team!
Thanks, Carl! I owe ya one. Or 50.
Oh, hello hottest player in baseball.
I don’t see Ian Desmond or Craig Stammen anywhere?
Did anyone else hear Bob say “Schwing?”
nope. Cubs lead!
I feel like he does that a lot. Like he’s always kinda sloshed during each game. Slurred speech and all
no one else watching the game?
Cubs win!
Marmol puts on the first two batters, induces game ending dp
Marmol channeled Lee Smith?
The Cubs are ruining the Pirates’ season.
And helping the Reds, which is gross.
What? Again?
Best-looking ballpark in baseball, hands-down.
Man, dempster is starting to piss me off. I get it. He’s a 10-and-5 guy. He’s earned the right. It’s a big decision. Family blah blah blah.
But it’s also major league baseball. Trades happen.
Accept it and move on or reject it so the teams can.
This is smacking a bit of self-centeredness, and if the game was at Wrigley tomorrow, I can’t say I wouldn’t boo him when he took the field.
I like the guy. He’s funny. He’s been probably the best Cub going for a while now.
But it’s time to move on.
What I most disliked about the whole ordeal was Dempster tweeting IN ALL CAPS that there was no trade. If there was no trade, fine. If there was almost a trade, fine as well. But keep your mouth shut. It just adds to the excrement hitting the fan. Some say that the few things he has said has taken away any leverage the Cubs had with deals with Atlanta or LA. I’m not truly sold on that. If Atlanta wants him, they’ll up their offer. If LA doesn’t meet Thoyer’s asking price, then they’ll move on to someone else. Dempster has his 10-5 rights, but he’s not the one making the deals. The Cubs are. And they’ll take the best deal offered to them that Dempster approves. We’ll see what happens. We’ll get something for him.
Dempster is being a whiny little baby. I ‘m so annoyed.
We had the chance to get a pretty decent young arm, and he blew it dor us.
Agreed about the baby comment. Even if the Braves aren’t his first choice, he must have told the higher ups he would agree to go there or they wouldn’t have even started negotiating with them. Absolutely no reason to take it upon yourself as the player to enter the rumor mill. It just fucks everything up. And then to tweet and offer no comment afterwards? Maybe he regretted the tweet.
Which brings me to tweets. They are 99% bullshit when dealing with stuff like this. Some big mouth down in Atlanta spouted off some shit to the Braves beat writer and he just had to tweet it, setting off the shitstorm. Who even knows if a solid deal was worked out? Who even knows if Delgado was REALLY part of the supposed deal? We 100% do not know anything. I think. At least I don’t know anything.
One good thing that came from the misinformed reporting of the Dempster non-trade, it apparently opened the flood gates for everyone else to pull the trigger on some trades. Exciting!
Cubs now asking for Allen Webster from Dodgers for Dempster.
LOL My spellcheck wanted to call him Dumpster….
