Dale Sveum Feels Your Pain . . Kinda

After yet another brutal start for Chris Volstad (I seriously can’t BELIEVE this is what we got in exchange for Zambrano), Dale Sveum came as close as he has to teeing off on a player since he said that he was going to bench Darlin’ Starlin and then Theo changed his mind for him:

“Not much has changed, obviously,” Sveum said. “Another big inning. But there was still some hard contact going on before that. His stuff and location wasn’t all that good anyway. … He didn’t really pitch to the game plan either.

“That was a little bit discouraging too. (Catcher Steve Clevenger) got shook off a lot for some reason. So another combination of a lot of things he’s got to learn to work on.”

So we’re not going to have to watch this trainwreck again, right Dale?

“We’ll run him out there again, as of now,” he said. “We’ve just got to stick to our game plan and trust Clevenger back there.”

Oh.

Am I the only one who read that as “I want to say he’ll never pitch for the Cubs again but I have to check with Theo first?”

Cubs and Braves back at it tonight at 6:10 pm CT on WGN. We’ll be back with a game thread later.

Happy Fourth, Everyone!

Don’t blame Dale, there’s NO ONE ELSE to run out there. Hendry and company left the cupboard bare.

    Mather has a good arm. I wonder…

Massive thunderstorms coming across the lake. It’s at times like these when you realize how flimsy lake cabins actually are . . . .

Still watching the fire that started last night in Palmdale. They have some containment, but may evacuate . I am taking my mom and sister to Santa Monica Fri-Sat. Just to get away from the heat for a little bit..

Can anyone tell me when “Build me up Buttercup” became mandatory at ball games? Watching the Nats-Giants game and they are playing it too…
