Seriously, I have nothing more to say. It’s August 21. That has to be a record. Usually, I run out of things to say around mid-September. But this team is just . . it’s just . . yeah.
So please excuse me while I state the obvious in my recap of last night:
- Justin Germano isn’t very good at pitching baseballs.
- Josh Vitters was 25% good at hitting homeruns.
- There are a bunch of people in the Cubs bullpen that I’ve never heard of.
- I still hate Ryan Braun.
That preeeeeettttty much sums it up.
Yet another butthead lefty starter is coming up to pitch tonight. Are you as excited about it as I am? I knew you would be.
MILWAUKEE — Chris Rusin may have had the easiest travel schedule of all the young Cubs starters. The left-hander, who will make his Major League debut on Tuesday against the Brewers, caught an 8 a.m. CT flight Monday from Des Moines, Iowa, to Milwaukee, and headed straight for Miller Park.
“It’s a dream come true — I’ve dreamed about this as a little kid and it finally happened,” said Rusin, who will be officially added to the roster on Tuesday.
Oh yes, for us, too. There’s nothing we’ve dreamed of more than watching Chris Rusin make his major-league debut against the Brewers. That is EXACTLY how I’ve always dreamed of spending my Tuesday night. Le sigh.
Because the Cubs are so damn depressing, let’s take a moment to laugh at Melky Cabrera one more time:
San Francisco Giants star outfielder Melky Cabrera mounted a campaign to avoid his 50-game suspension that included a fake website featuring a fictitious product in an effort that was quickly uncovered by MLB investigators, the New York Daily News has reported.
Citing an anonymous source close to the case and a Cabrera associate who told the newspaper he was “accepting responsibility for what everyone else already knows” concerning the fake site, the Daily News reported famed investigator Jeff Novitzky and agents from MLB’s investigative arm have begun looking more closely at Cabrera and the scheme purportedly hatched in July as they seek the source of the synthetic testosterone found in his urine.
“There was a product they said caused this positive,” the source told the Daily News of Cabrera and his representatives. “Baseball figured out the ruse pretty quickly.”
Am I the only one dying to see this website? I would love to see what a doped-up, panicky Melky Cabrera can do with a few hours and a WordPress template.
New guy pitches tonight in Milwaukee at 7:05 pm CT.

If you don’t want to watch this train wreck, may I suggest the Nationals? They’re the most exciting team in baseball right now.
Just saying.
no.
We’re not all as fickle as you.
I’m not fickle. I moved to a new city, literally 20 feet from the left field gate of the team’s stadium. My loyalties have evolved.
I’ll always be a Cubs fan, but as long as I’m a Washingtonian I’ll be a Nats fan, too.
And when you have the choice between the two in a year like this… well, there’s really no choice at all.
no
I’ve lived in Atlanta, LA, San Diego, and now St. Louis. I never rooted for anyone but the Cubbies.
You, sir, are a turncoat.
OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!!!
Try not living in shithole cities?
San Diego is not a shithole.
Yeah, I missed that one. San Diego is a great town.
You all can thumbs-down my comment as much as you like; I’ll be the one attending playoff games as a fan of the home team this year.
This is a year!
It has seemed a lot longer than just a year.
I wish Soriano would accept the trade to the Giants so I could have something to be excited about. My new found pleasure is watching all the former Cubs who are in playoff contention…SAD, I tell ya!
It’s not worth wishing for. It isn’t going to happen. We should all just find something else to wish for.
RE:Melky-he did not come up with the website, some flunky for his agent named Juan Nunez did. According to ESPN, MLB actually went to look for the stuff on the website. Here in L.A.,the local news broadcasts have made a big thing about “Sour Melk,” conveniently forgetting about cheater Manny Ramirex and current cheater Bellisario both being on the Dodgers. They kept going on and on how the Giants would fold-thankfully the Giants won last night…
I will say, Justin Germano is really nice about responding to fans on Twitter. As is Iowa Cub Dave Sappelt…and Peoria Chief Anthony Giansanti. That’s all I got.
I just yawned and belched at the same time. Sounded a bit like Chewbacca in distress.
Where I work, the IT guys would invent their own “unique” ringtones like screaming chimps, parrots, and someone had Chewbacca yelling.Unforunately, the organization cracked down, and now the entire IT deparment has the same ringtone of an old English telephone…
Old English 40oz sounds tasty right now.
Damn! A 40oz’er! What’s the %?
If they still make them I think there about 6.0%
Looks like the Peoria Chiefs are moving to Kane County. That works out well for me.
Damn…you beat me too it.
If I understand these things right (and I seldom do), I believe it not really that the Cubs will be moving the Chiefs…the Chiefs probably staying in Peoria…they will just become affiliated with another team. From what I understand, the Cougers will then become the new affiliate for the Cubs.
Regardless, this is a good move for the organization.
Why? Just because it is closer?
(I’m not being sarcastic, I have no idea how this kind of thing is evaluated)
Yes…mostly because it is closer.
A good number of major league teams have at least one of their minor league affiliates relatively close to where the major league team plays. While Peoria wasn’t all the far away, it was far enough away to make little difference over any of the other minor league affiliates.
Having a team that close to Chicago (45 minute drive as opposed to 3 hours) allows the Cubs front office to quickly go over to do a quick scouting of a player or opposing players, possibly being able to catch an afternoon game in Kane County and then still be back in time for the Cubs game that evening (or vice versa). Sending a player on a rehab assignment will also be easier.
The Cubs could also set up some remote excutive offices in Kane County as well. Considering the focus Theo Epstein is putting on minor league development, being closer to one of the more important minor league clubs is going to be a bit of a help.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t the last of the changes as far as their minor league structure is concerned. I think Daytona will probably stay, but the Cubs have been threatening to move the Boise club for a while now. Iowa is a good spot for the AAA team, but you’d have to wonder if the Cubs would consider changing their AA affiliate. I don’t remember exactly, but I think the Cubs have changed their AA affiliate quite a bit over the years. I remember back when I was a kid, they were out in New England somewhere. More recently they’ve been or Orlando and Charlotte. I think their contract with Tennessee is up after next season…but I could be wrong.
Ah. That makes sense.
Wow…I actually made sense for once. I feel all tingly inside.
whatever. you know what i meant.
No. I have no clue what you meant. I’m clueless.
really?
did the cougars bail out of town?
No…the Cubs are just bailing on the Chiefs.
this so confuses me. does the whole operations just switch? who is considered part of the Cubs organization and who is part of the Chiefs?
but then, its been a long couple of days and I may not be optimizing my higher brain functions
Most (not all) of these minor league teams are independently owned. The enter into contracts with big league teams who then send players to play for them. Many minor league teams, especially at the lower levels, change affiliations quite often. Looking it up, since the Cougers moved to Kane County in 1991, they’ve been affiliated with the Royals, A’s, Marlins and Orioles.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the Chiefs. Supposedly they have a good group down there so another team is likely to come in. It seems like a good fit for either the Sox or Cardinals, but you never know…or since the Royals are out in Kane County, maybe they’ll just swap with the Cubs.
Actually the Chiefs will still be the Cub A affiliate.
Theo is moving the Cub team to Kane County.
The Sun-Times is reporting that the Cubs are in negotiations to dump the Peoria Chiefs as their high-A minor league affiliate and have the Kane County Cougers as their new affiliate.
This is pretty stunning news considering how long the Cubs have had a relationship with the Chiefs…a relationship that has, in the past, had very deep ties.
At the same time, having a minor league team that much closer to Chicago is not a bad thing. This is a sign that the Cubs ownership, at least with some things, is not going to be tied to the past when trying to do what is best for the club.
Do they have to keep the name “Cougers”? That’s not a very baseball name-more like a high-school football team name…
More like a good porn name. Porn is a sport right?
It’s hard to say. I think it’s very possible that they could become the Kane County Cubs, but because the Cougars have a pretty established base in Kane County, they may prefer to just stay the “Cougars”. Who knows when the Cubs might bale anyway. Remember, the Cubs wouldn’t actually own the team, they just are affiliated with them. The the Cougars, this is like their 4th or 5th different team affiliation, and they really haven’t been around for that long of a time.
One of the office girls just told me she does yoga. I innocently said yoga is more of a spectator sport for me. Off to HR again…
Dude…if you get sent to HR, make sure it’s for something a lot more offending. Make it worth your while.
Same girl that gave me the book. I thought she would like my comment.
That is what I call mixed signals.
Typical woman.
Tell her you meant that you wanted to come over and watch.
