Cubs Tuesday Game Thread: How’s This For Effort?

I’ve decided that the mount of effort I put into these game threads will be directly proportional to the amount White Sox fans care about their team, as judged by their attendance. As you can see, this what we’re left with.

Tonight Travis Wood (1-398,000, 5761.03) takes on Yovanni Gallardo (13-8, 3.62). So this should be a blast. (Onto Waveland. For the Brewers.)

First pitch is at 7:05 pm CT on WGN.

Oh, and there’s this:

CHICAGO — The Cubs secured part of the middle of their infield on Tuesday, signing shortstop Starlin Castro to a seven-year, $60 million contract extension.

The deal reportedly includes a $6 million signing bonus, with salaries of $5 million for 2013 and ’14, $6 million in ’15, $7 million in ’16, $9 million in ’17, $10 million in ’18 and $11 million in ’19. There is also reportedly a club option for ’20 at $16 million, or a $1 million buyout.

If Castro wins the Most Valuable Player Award or finishes first through fifth twice, the final year of the deal and the option year would each escalate by $2 million.

The deal would cover all four years of arbitration for Castro, plus his first three years of free agency.

So congrats, Darlin’ Starlin. Just don’t go 0-4 tonight and make us regret it.

This thread was done with her lipstick as she was running off to have a quick latte with Ryan before the game.

Did anyone else just see Travis Wood hit a homerun? I think I might be having a stroke.

Just came home, to find out the only run scored by the cubs is by the pitcher. That about sums up,the season…

I’m not putting myself in the “We Stinks” category anymore but the Cubs really really stink. My niece in tee-ball could play better.

I need to get about 27 more contributors for this site. Having to write about this team more than once a week is emotionally unhealthy.

That “play of the game,” is a little impressive. How is the cup filled?

And the Brewers continue their record-setting run of double-digit strikeout games. 11 again tonight for the Cubs. Impressive. I’m going to go vomit a little bit now.
