Cubs Saturday Game Thread: Trudging to the Deadline

Oh, hello noon game. I didn’t expect to see you.

In the interests of getting the thread up BEFORE the game starts, and because there’s no real Cubs news flying around today (I assume, I’ve been at little league all morning), let’s cut right to the chase.

Ryan Dempster (4-2, 2.19–that ‘s TWO ONE NINER) will take the mound to face Joe Saunders of the D’Backs (4-5, 3.44)

Lineup:

Johnson CF
Castro SS
Rizzo 1B
Soriano LF
Baker RF
Soto C
Barney 2B
Valbuena 3B
Dempster P

The entire DBack roster looks like it was picked up in about the 11th round of a fantasy draft.

Is soriano auditioning himself for a trade or what?

At this point, I say keep him to provide Rizzo some protection in the lineup. I mean, we’re going to be paying him one way or the other, might as well get Rizzo as many hittable pitches in the process as possible. While Rizzo has done well thus far, he still has a long way to go before he can be the power anchor of the team.

And, in other news the Dodgers sent Elian Herrera, and Scott Van Slyke to the minors. Now the LA sports dorks are now naming them as Dempster trade bait…

with no outs and men on 1st & 2nd after a double and walk I’m sure Marmol’s sphincter tightened then relaxed big-time after the Reedz gem of a catch and hustle getting up off the ground to throw the ball in quickly.
And Reedz didn’t let the Wrigley wall blow his concentration. Very nice play!
