That’s right Cubs fans, this is the last worthless evening that you’ll have to spend. Why? Because tomorrow Anthony Rizzo arrives to save us all from . . well . . SOMETHING. No–I got it—he’s saving us from NOTHING. Another season of nothingness. That is from which Anthony Rizzo saves us.
Rizzo, the Cubs’ top prospect who was batting .342 at Triple-A Iowa and leading the Pacific Coast League with 23 home runs, will join the big league team on Tuesday when it plays host to the Mets at Wrigley Field.
The first baseman started for Iowa on Monday against Round Rock in Des Moines but was pulled in the fourth inning. He has 62 RBIs and an OPS of 1.101. This month, he’s hitting .316 with six homers and 16 RBIs. Only Alfonso Soriano has matched those numbers for the Cubs in June, hitting seven homers with 16 RBIs.
The Cubs are riding a four-game losing streak, and have struggled all season with runners in scoring position.
Way to bring us all down by throwing that little tid-bit in there, Carrie.
In other fun news today, Marlon Byrd was suspended 50 games for testing positive for PEDs. Yes, yes. I’m sure the positive test was a side effect of Ricola or some such. Whatever you say, Marlon.
Suddenly, all those photos he took like this don’t seem like such a good idea:
Ah well. Live and learn.
Hey—this IS the last worthless evening you’ll have to spend! Tonight’s worthless even features Travis Wood (do I really need to look up his stats? Let’s just say 1-98, 28.93 or something) vs. Johan Santana (5-1, 3.00). But remember, it’s the LAST worthless evening!
Tonight’s last worthless lineup:
Johnson RF
Barney 2B
Castro SS
Soriano LF
Baker 1B
Soto C
Mather CF
Valbuena 3B
Wood P
The last worthless pitch will be at 7:10 pm CT on CSN +.

“Man, Anthony Rizzo sure does look a lot like Marlon Bird.”
“…”
“Oh.”
I think it’s fitting that the last worthless evening will be broadcast on CSN+. This ensures that almost no one will be watching.
Well…how stupid is it that tomorrow night’s game is on WCIU. Yep. Only people in Chicago get to see that game.
Any chance that MLB Network would pick it up, since Rizzo is coming to save Chicago?
Since Chicago is neither on the west or east coast, I wouldn’t bet on it.
Sloan is on the West Coast Doc and so is me says I. MLB better pick up the game or else I’m going to start a looting spree in L.A. like Rodney King……
I didn’t know Rodney King looted LA.
I was his wing man
and he didn’t give the L.A. pd their cut. Leading to……….But we CAN all get along.
I was working in a really crummy part of La at the time, and when the second trial happened for the cops, I had a packed suitcase because they were going to fly us to Tempe Arizona in case the cops were acquitted again..
Has tonight been sufficiently worthless?
Also, Joe Mather is magic.
No appeal for Marlon, apparently.

Gotta give it to Travis Wood, nice job tonight.
Oh Reed Johnson, how could you…
MLB network bless their heart cut into the game in time for me to watch the Mets drop that popup. They showed a couple of sulky Mets fans, and Harold Reynolds yelled,”Wake up!”
What a crazy inning so far..
Cubs win! Too bad Russell gave up that run…
Is everone still celebrating Rizzomas?
