Kansas City, Kansas City here we come. For reasons that are still entirely unclear to me (other than random interleague play rules). But no matter. There is baseball in KC tonight and we shall be there.
Tonight Ryan Dempster (5-6, 5.46) will take the hill against someone named Bruce Chen (4-1, 3.59). I’ve never heard of Bruce Chen, but apparently he’s been around since 1998 and he looks to be better than anyone on our team, so what do I know?
The Cubs head into KC fresh off the “OMG Mike Quade Why On Earth Didn’t You Pinch Hit for Koyie Hill?!?!?!” controversy, so let’s get right to the lineup:
- Fukudome CF
- Castro SS
- Ramirez 3B
- Baker DH
- Soto C
- Peña 1B
- Soriano LF
- Montañez RF
- LeMahieu 2B
At least Quade pinch hit for Hill in tonight’s lineup. Dusty would have started him and hit him cleanup just to teach us all a lesson about opening our fool mouths.
After a hot start, the Royals have fallen back into last place, 10 games out of first. The Cubs have a worse record (by one game), and are also 10 games out of first. So it’s kind of like we’re playing ourselves tonight, which should be interesting. I’ll set the over/under on total game errors tonight at 6.
First pitch tonight is at 7:10 pm CT on WGN.

over.
shut up, cat boy.
Since we are playing ourselves in this game, I can’t wait for the Royals to let Koyie Hill hit with a man on third in the 8th inning being down by one run.
I’m not sure how this would actually work, though as that would mean the Cubs actually would be winning the game.
Jeff Baker just tripled in Rami.
I did not expect that.
I thought there would be discussion of bbq from the title of this post!
The only real BBQ is Carolina BBQ. The rest are all pretenders. Though I’ll admit they do make some good stuff here in TX.
I have a feeling Memphis would disagree with that. I’m not a huge fan of big hunks of meat, so I’ll abstain.
To clarify, eastern CA BBQ. I don’t know what those hill country folk are thinking.
Went to LC’s BBQ in Kansas City this weekend. Pretty darn good stuff. And we got to meet LC himself. Win win.
Let me know when we can stop pretending Dempster is a solid starter.
I’m letting you know right now. You can stop.
I’m officially saying that this Cubs team is the worst base-running Cubs team of my lifetime.
There are really setting the bar for future Cub teams in baserunning errors….
At some point, teams will learn to not run on the Royals outfielders. They’re tops in baseball in combined assists.
I can’t believe we got a runner past 2B.
I can’t believe the Cubs had 5 base hits and 0 RBI in that inning.
Have the Cubs gone ahead yet? I’ve been watching CNN for the NY vote….
6-4 Cubs in the bottom of the 9th.
What are the Cubs doing?
probably sleeping right now.
