Cubs Live Game Thread: It Could Be Worse

How? How could it be worse, you ask?

We’ve all been worried about the Cubs losing 100 games this year. It could still happen, but it might not.

On the other hands, the Astros, who have already lost 85 games, will probably lose 100 games by the first week in September.

See? SEE? It could be worse!

Oh, and Chris Volstad could be pitching today. But he’s not! Our one remaining decent starter, Jeff Samardizja (I know, I never thought I’d say it, either)  is pitching! It’s going to be a good day!

Jeff Samardizja (8-11, 4.17) will take on the Colorado Rockies’ Drew Pomeranz (1-7, 4.87). I like name “Pomeranz” because it sounds like “Pomeranian.” I like Pomeranians.

First pitch is at 1:20 pm CT on WGN.

I would like to point out that up until the last week or so, the Rockies had a worse record than the Cubs.

So I expect the Cubs to sweep this weekend.

You know, it’s obvious that Soriano is not going to be traded before the Sept 1 deadline.

The one chance the Cubs had to trade him, he turned down.

So why not bench him for the rest of the year? He wanted to stay in Chicago…let’s see how much he likes it from the bench.

(Never mind the fact that he is basically the only offensive threat this team has right now.)

I could have sworn that Julie said that Wrigley Talk Friday was on today. I see links for the 17th & the 31st, but nothing for today.

So… what is the likelihood Samardizja keeps this up and really ends up a serviceable, middle-of-the-rotation pitcher?

Haha the Rockies’ 2B dropped the ball like 6 times. This is like watching a Little League game.

MLBTR almost gave me a heart attack today with a post titled:

    “Minor Moves: Cubs, Koyie Hill”

I think we could sue them for this.

Once an eagle swooped down and in 1 gulp sucked down a mouse. Miraculously the mouse made it through the eagle’s whole digestive system and peeked out the eagle’s butt as it was in flight.
“Wow! We’re way up here aren’t we?”
“Bout 1000 feet.” the eagle replied.
      To which the mouse replied,”Ya wouldn’t s*** me,would ya?”

Man! Is Chicago trying to set a record. Just read 19 people shot overnight,13 in a 30 minute period. Well I guess no one died so it can’t add to the ‘deadliest city’ stats.

It sounds like the Red Sox are going into “Fire Sale” mode.

It’s looking like Adrian Gonzalez has been traded to the Dodgers.
