I’d love to use the Zombie Jeff Samardzija photo again, but that would be the third time this week, and that seems like a lot no matter WHO the zoimbie is.
The Cubs roll into Atlanta tonight to take on the once-feared Atlanta Braves (seriously, remember that pitching staff in the 1990′s? (shudders)). Alas, outside of Jair Jurrgens (who I think was demoted to the minors this year), I can’t name a single pitcher on their staff. Oh, how them mighty have fallen.
Even so, the formerly-mighty Braves are in the middle of the pack in the NL Easts and only 4.5 games behind division-leading Washington (did I really just say ‘division-leading Washington?’). The Cubs, on the other hand, are a mere 2.5 games from catching up to the lowly Astros. So we have that going for us, which is nice.
First pitch tonight is at 6:10 pm CT on CSN. The aforementioned Jeff Samardzija (2-6. 5.98) will take on Tommy Hanson (6-2, 3.51). If you haven’t noticed, Samardzija has had a bunch of bad starts in a row, and is dangerously close to going back to being called “Spellcheck” again. Let’s see if he can right the ship tonight. Lineup:

I just got this vision of Julie floating down a river in a inner-tube with floaties on her arms an apple martini in a red cup in one hand and an Iphone in the other. Probably wearing a black one piece bikini with Nike river shoes on. I can picture her screaming “Screw you Doc! I’m at the lake bish!!!”
1) What the hell is a one-piece bikini?
2) I would not need floaties. River shoes ruin my pedicure.
3) Apple martinis are gross.
At least I got the inner-tube, Iphone and screaming part right. No crystal ball needed…
She may have found a secret island out on the lake, and said secret island may be being used as a base for world domination.

I feel like it was very recently that Spellcheck was deemed untouchable for trade consideration. And I also remember lots of people defending this decision because we haven’t really seen what kind of starter he is yet. But I feel like he’s been on this team FOREVER. And I feel like the only time he seemed to be any good was for about 2 or 3 months as a reliever and for the first month and a half of this season. And I feel like he sucks.
Also… with him being so new as a starter, it would be hard to get much in return for him. His trade value is really unknown. That might be the best reason not to trade him.
True true… I was just shocked when I heard that he had been deemed untouchable. Untradeable? Now, that I can agree with. But now I read that Castro is the only touchable. I wonder why Spellcheck is now allowed to be touched?

I agree. That 12 game losing streak was a mixed blessing. It put the Cubs in prime selling mode (even though that mightve happened at some point), but also skewed the perception of the team. This team really isn’t THAT bad (even though it certainly is not good).
