Everyone do everything EXACTLY like they did last night. And the three games before.
In keeping with this theme, here is last night’s game thread, revised for tonight’s game:
I’d love to use the Zombie
Jeff SamardzijaChris Volstad photo again, but that would be the third time this week, and that seems like a lot no matter WHO the zoimbie is.The Cubs roll into Atlanta tonight to take on the once-feared Atlanta Braves (seriously, remember that pitching staff in the 1990′s? (shudders)). Alas, outside of Jair Jurrjens (who I recently learned was back from being demoted to the minors this year), I
can’tonly namea singletwo pitchers on their staff. Oh, how them mighty have fallen.Even so, the formerly-mighty Braves are in the middle of the pack in the NL Easts and only
4.55.0 games behind division-leading Washington (did I really just say ‘division-leading Washington?’). The Cubs, on the other hand, are a mere2.51.5 games from catching up to the lowly Astros. So we have that going for us, which isnice.sad.First pitch tonight is at 6:10 pm CT on CSN. The aforementioned
Jeff Samardzija (2-6. 5.98)Chris Volstad will take onTommy Hanson (6-2, 3.51)Jair Jurrjens If you haven’t noticed,Samardzija hasVolstad hasa bunch of bad starts in a rowsucked and is dangerously close to going back to being called“Spellcheck” “Dumbass” again. Let’s see if he can right the ship tonight.
Lineup:
DeJesus CF
Castro SS
Rizzo 1B
Soriano LF
LaHair RF
Clevenger C
Barney 2B
Valbuena 3B
Volstad P.

Rain delay. First pitch scheduled for 8 pm ET.
That’s going to throw everything off. Because of this rain delay, the Cubs are going to lose the next 20 games.
That didn’t happen last night . . .
told you so.
Rizzo with a double. He can stay.
no. he sucks.
Eh, Volstad seems like he’s got a shot at Anthony Young’s consecutive loss record.
Not with the Rizzo Effect in play
I was wrong
If we should be doing the same as the prior 4 days… then shouldn’t you be in the middle of a lake?
I was in the middle of a lake at the appropriate time, thank you very much.
the appropriate time to be in the middle of a lake (for you) is all the time.
I think there’s an insult in there, but I can’t find it . ..
That was quite a failure on my part. I think I need to take a vacation in the middle of a lake.
I had forgotten all about Chris Volstad. Today I am reminded why.
Lets hope the Cubbies management forgets about bringing him home from Atlanta.
Haven’t we got SOMEONE ELSE in the minors to throw batting practice for the other team?
I just looked at the stats. I guess we don’t.
The pitching in the minor leagues right now is quite horrendous.
Someone just end this game.
I asked “what happened?” on Twitter and like 100 people just said “Volstad.”
I blame Theriot.
Volstad and a cast of several.
We should save ourselves the headaches and just not watch the games in which the 5th pitcher is starting.
Is he our 5th, or is Maholm our 5th? I lose track.
I think we can treat this spot as the 5th. We have had Wells and Volstad there all year with no success. Maholm is actually capable of a good outing every now and then.
Just think how much more awesome it will be once Dempster and Garza are gone. Wells and Volstad become the back end of the rotation and Maholm becomes a borderline front end starter.
that sounds like the opposite of “awesome.”
But Rizzo will be playing 1st with no protection in the lineup…
there might even be a james russell sighting or two… *shudder
I think I am going to go down into the garage and do some welding without a helmet. Meebe I can become temporarily blinded for a while.
