Cubs Live Game Thread: Cubs @ Nationals, 12:05 Central

After shockingly holding their own against the first-place team in the NL West, the Cubs will be in Washington to play the first-place team in the NL East. We should all be praying that the Cubs do well in this series or we’ll never hear the end of it from gravedigger.

Jeff Samardzija (8-12, 4.03) will take on lefty Ross Detwiler (8-6, 3.32). With a lefty on the mound for the Nationals, you know what that means for the Cubs… Lefty lineup!

Mather CF

Barney 2B

Rizzo 1B

Soriano LF

Castro SS

Castillo C

Vitters 3B

Sappelt RF

Fukudome was released by the Yankees today. He could be VERY valuable in our drive for last place!

Can we just talk about Samardzija’s facial hair for a minute? Bad facial hair, or the WORST facial hair?

Julie, you should be saying good things before the game and save the disparagements for after. And only if he pitches a bad agame.
Poor dude’s gonna get a complex.(Why do they call it a ‘complex’)
    Anyway: GO CUBBIES!!!

So the Nats are shutting Strasburg down after two more starts. This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Mark, your new team is WAY stupider than the Cubs.

Heck…they hired Jim Riggleman. That’s about as stupid of a thing as anyone could do. (Of course they did fire Jim Riggleman too, so that shows that they can learn from their mistakes.)

I’ve been back and forth on this. But I think I’ve settled on the idea that this path worked for Zimmerman a lot better than the cubs strategies with wood and prior. The nationals won’t make the same mistake the cubs made twice.

except that Strasburg has already HAD TJ surgery, the very surgery you shut guys down to avoid. As someone said on Twitter, you can only wine THIS YEAR’s World Series. Stupid.

Tommy John surgery isn’t the concern here.

The concern is Strasburg’s shoulder…and that concern existed long before he had the TJ surgery. Strasburg has some of the big mechanical flaws that exist for a lot of these young phenom pitchers…basically having their elbow way too high when their front foot hits the ground.

My guess it is just matter of time before Strasburg’s shoulder goes to hell. In my opinion, his delivery is more violent than Mark Prior’s was. He could prove a lot of people wrong, but I don’t see Strasburg’s career lasting all that long. Overworking him early in his career might accelerate the deterioration.

I got way too drunk and didn’t wake up until the game was half over. I’ll be around to gloat tomorrow.
