Cubs Live Game Thread: Alfonso and His 10-5 Rights

So Dempster vetoed his trade to the Atlanta Braves last week, will Alfonso do the same?

Apparently the Los Angeles Dodgers have been rumored to be showing interest in the the 10 year veteran however Fonzie has 10-5 Rights just like Dempster and could also nix the deal if he doesn’t like the team he’s being traded to.

With the trade deadline looming (3pm CT Tuesday) Talks have intensified over the past 24 hours between the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers in a potential trade for pitcher Ryan Dempster that now includes outfielder Alfonso Soriano, according to a major league source.

“It will have to be a good city with a good team,” Soriano said Sunday. “I would give the team the opportunity to trade me, but as I said the team and city would have to be good. Nobody has come to me about a trade yet.”

The San Francisco Giants have also made inquiries about Soriano, according to another major league source.

I personally wouldn’t mind seeing him in a Giants uniform because I live in San Francisco and he’s fun to watch.

The Chicago Cubs have captured five straight home series after taking one against an NL contender to open this six-game homestand. They’ll welcome another one of the league’s top teams to Wrigley Field on Monday night in the start of a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Tonight’s Lineup has newly acquired Justin Germano on the mound (Fingers crossed)

According to my source and that source and his source and her source and mlb source and according to a front office member who wished to stay unidentified and according to a person with direct knowledge and close to the situation.

According to this site and that site and his site and her site and that one site.

According to this writer and that writer and that journalist and the other journalist and this paper and that paper and this blog and that blog.

This player is going here but not going there but might be interested in everywhere. This person has these rights and those rights but vetoes this but will approve that.

Our old front office did this but didn’t do that but this front office that and they should be doing this and no one knows this even though I expected to do this but now their not gonna do that.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

Anyone get the feeling that about 99% of people doing all this reporting and/or talking and/or writing don’t what the fuck their talking about?

All I’ve heard is that this administration is very tight lipped. If anyone has “a source” I’d be suspicious of its authenticity.

Agreed, pretty much what I was getting at. All of a sudden the skies are fallen because we haven’t made trades yet.

For the 1st time in my life I actually trust with no uncertainty that whatever this front office is doing behind the scenes is the best that can be done.

Exactly. Men that know much much more about baseball than I do are running the show. I’m happy with that.

Remember, though — there are two (or more) sides. The other team may not be so tight lipped. A player with no trade restrictions may be notified, opening up him, his friends, and his family. And even from the team, I can tell you from experience where I work in politics – those who know may talk in the elevators, in front of an intern, the janitor, etc. anybody close to a situation can potentially be a source. It also means people can ridiculously misconstrue things, so yeah, it is smart to take everything with a boulder of salt.

    Latest from the wire:
Ken Rosenthal: Cubs have traded Reed Johnson and Geovany Soto in separate deals.

Carrie Muskat: Brett Jackson has been pulled from the game in Iowa.

USATODAY: Johnson may be on his way to Detroit for right-hander Thomas Collier, who was pulled from his start at Single-A West Michigan after three innings tonight.

The Mets had talked to the Cubs about Soto.
