The 7th Player Award is an award that is given to an individual who “has gone above and beyond the call of duty and exceeded everyone’s expectations,” and is voted on by the fans. This year the award went to “Zoom zoom” Tyler Seguin. He was presented with the trophy before Tuesday nights loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This season alone Seguin has managed to post 27 goals, tying the team-high with buddy Brad Marchand, along with 38 assists for 65 points. Not bad for a sophomore season. In a post-game interview he expressed his gratitude for the recognition.

When asked what he knew about the award he stated:

“Not too much, a little bit, I know that Marshy won it last year, so I don’t know if it’s that great of an award.”

Taking a stab at teammate Brad Marchand, who was the recipient of the award for the 2010-2011 season.  There is no denying the twenty year old has some raw, natural talent and was very well deserving of the award, but he didn’t shy away from letting the media know that he wasn’t the only guy in the room he felt was deserving, name dropping Chris Kelly and commending his efforts on the ice as well.

“I’m very humbled and honored to be accepting that award, and obviously there’s a lot of guys that could have got it. One that especially comes to mind is Chris Kelly.”
