Daily Countdown: 98 Days Bergeron Wins Selke

Congrats to Patrice Bergeron! (Credit: NHL Bruins Twitter)

Last night at the NHL awards, Patrice Bergeron was the winner of the Frank J. Selke Trophy. The Selke Trophy is awarded annually “to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.”

Bergy is the first B’s player to the win the award since Steve Kasper in 1982. And honestly I don’t think there’s anyone more deserving to win an award like this then Bergeron.

This is his first Selke in his 8 years of playing in the NHL.

In fact let’s take a second to watch some highlights of one of the Bruins key forwards:

When receiving the award, Bergeron was ever so gracious and said:

“Hockey’s such a team sport that I have to thank all my teammates for this right now, they’re the reason why I’m here.” (via NHLBruins)

If you want to watch his entire speech (just in case you missed it!), you can check it out below:

Congrats Bergeron!
