Trent Mummy is a physical education major from Auburn with big eyebrows. Besides that, he’s also a 2010 draft pick of the Orioles, and he’s actually one I’d say is worth checking out. He was out for half of the college season, but once he returned, he hit .366 with 17 homers in only 153 at-bats, and Auburn made it to the NCAA regionals for its first trip into the postseason since 2005.
Ignore the hideous uniforms in that video and check out the kid’s swing. It’s pretty nifty, no? The Orioles compare Mummey to my boy Matt Angle, only with more power, so he’s a fairly good prospect, in my opinion. As you can probably see in that video, he’s got wheels – he legs out a triple. That speed is probably the best tool he’s got going for him, but he might develop more power as he continues to grow, as well. Baseball America states that he could become a “poor man’s Lenny Dykstra.” I’m really hoping the money troubles don’t come with that. Since he displayed both speed and power in the Cape League back in 2009, he’s expected to perform fairly well in the pros. You can likely catch him at low-A to start 2011.
