There isn’t really much to say just yet, as Wright is a 2011 addition to the organization (he went in the third round to the Orioles in the draft). He signed quickly enough to get in twelve games total in 2011 – he pitched an inning in the GCL, then seven in Aberdeen (where he went 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA). He earned a promotion to Delmarva for four games, but he went 1-1 with a 10.54 ERA there; either he got rocked badly in one game or he just wasn’t fully ready. He also was coming off a foot injury due to stepping on a bottle cap, so there’s that (typical Orioles injury, too).
Wright is a sinkerballer with a plus slider and changeup. He hits 96 with his two-seamer on occasion, but he generally sits in the low 90s. The next step for Wright will be bulking up and working on his command, and perhaps someday he’ll evolve into a 3-4 starter. Right now, we can expect him to start back out in Delmarva for 2012.
