According to emerging reports, Premier League giants Arsenal F.C. have joined in the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes alongside arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Gomes spent entirety of the 2018/19 season on loan at Everton, impressing with his 27 Premier League appearances for Everton while help the Toffees to a top-eight finish this season.
According to The Telegraph, however, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly on the verge of sanctioning a £30 million swoop for the Portuguese ace this summer, but they could be faced with strong competition from their bitter rivals Arsenal F.C.
Spanish radio show RAC1 claim the Gunners are weighing up summer transfer swoop for Gomes right under Spurs’ noses, with the likes of West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers also in the race for his signature.
Gomes will be left will huge decision to make shortly after the UEFA Champions League and Europa League final, with a return to Barcelona doesn’t seem unlikely and the Europa League finalist are the latest club to be linked with an interest for the midfielder.
Arsenal head-coach Unai Emery’s first season as the Emirates has somewhat a mixed with the club losing Aaron Ramsey moving to Juventus in June, and the Spaniard will need to bring in some fresh reinforcements to his team ahead of next season.
Gomes, who represented Portugal at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, has the quality to fill the void left by Ramsey and he’s still in the best years of his career, having already proven himself in one of the toughest leagues in Europe.
William Hill, however, have been forced to slash their odds on the Portuguese joining Arsenal after a flurry of large William Hill promo code backed the Barcelona hitman to make the move to North London this summer.
Tottenham, who are playing Liverpool in the Champions League final, were thought to be the frontrunners for his signature, but they might now be at risk of missing out on his signing with Arsenal strongly in the race for his signature.
Arsenal beating Chelsea in the Europa League final on Wednesday would see a return to next season’s Champions League, and in turn, Emery will be granted additional funds to bring in new players to the club and Gomes should be one of the Spaniard’s top priority signing this window.
Tottenham, however, have overtaken their neighbours in the Premier League in recent years and looks a better prospect in signing youngsters and while they would be looking to bounce back in the 2019-20 campaign, about three to five signings could help boost their position in the Premier League next season.
Andre Gomes transfer saga, however, remains to be seen where it will end up, but he could fit in well at the Emirates should they manage to get the best of Chelsea at the Europa League final.
