The Duke men’s basketball team used a huge first half and held on to beat host Georgia Tech,68-51. They jumped out to a 12-3 lead less than four minutes into the game. The Blue Devils led 43-27 at the half behind 58.6% shooting (17-of-29).
The Yellow Jackets never got closer than six points and that was with 11:07 to go in the first half. They never got closer than 13 points in the second half.
Both teams went ice cold in the second half and it was ugly to watch. Duke had scored just 12 points ten minutes into the second half. In the entire second half, they only made seven shots (out of 26). GT also only made seven shots (out of 20).
Reigning ACC Rookie of the Week Jabari Parker recorded another double-double: 16 points and 14 rebounds. He also blocked three shots. RodneyHood was hot to start, as he had nine points (all three pointers) less than six minutes into the game. However, he cooled off and finished with 14 points on 5-of-16 shooting.
Rasheed Sulaimon scored 11 points. Tyler Thornton only scored six points, but he hauled in three rebounds, dished out five assists, and had two steals. He did not commit a turnover (Duke only committed five of them as a team).Quinn Cook came off the bench to score nine points on 4-of-8 shooting. He also dished out two assists.
*Duke jumped in the polls to number five (or six in the USA Today Coaches Poll) after beating Maryland on Saturday night. The Blue Devils will now make the short trip to Chapel Hill to play rival North Carolina on Thursday night before finishing this brutal four games in eight days stretch on Saturday night when number one and undefeated Syracuse travels to Cameron Indoor Stadium.
